‘BJP trying to trigger communal tension’ allege ethnic Organisations

GUWAHATI: Six ethnic organisations of the State – Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, All Assam Schedule Caste Students’ Union, Krishak-Shramik Unnayan Sangram Committee, Krishak-Shramik Unnayan Parishad, All Assam Goriya-Moria Yuba Chatra Parishad and All Assam Jatiyatabadi Unnayan Parishad alleged that the ruling BJP is trying to implant communal conflict in the State by passing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Talking to the reporters at the Dispur Press Club on Thursday, the leaders of the six ethnic organisations have stressed that the BJP has been plotting to settle thousands of illegal foreign nationals in Assam taking advantage of the controversial Bill. “BJP’s move to pass the Bill is entirely against the interest of the people of Assam,” the leaders said.

Criticising the AGP’s rehearsed statement to break the alliance with the BJP if the Bill is passed, the leaders of the sic ethnic organizations argued, “What is the point if the AGP breaks the alliance with BJP once the Bill is passed.” The leaders further said, “It’s high time for the AGP to abandon BJP to earn confidence of the people of the State.” Reacting to State BJP president Ranjit Dass’s controversial statement made in reference to the recent Assam bandh defaming the minority Muslims of the State, the leaders said, “BJP should remember that they came to power with a larger number of votes mandated by the minorities.”
