GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur expressed his gratitude by saying that the Assamese people have shown that their votes will let the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) win once again.

Addressing a press meet at the media cell of BJP at Khanapara on Satuday, Thakur said that the BJP has got the maximum votes in the first and second phases of Assam Assembly election; and it will be repeated in the third phase too.

Thakur took a dig at the Congress by saying that the way the oldest political party referred to Badaruddin Ajmal as Assam's identity is totally shameful because Assam is known as Maa Kamakhya's land. Thakur also raised Badruddin Ajmal's 'Gamosa-insulting' issue and slammed Rahul Gandhi for considering him "as Assam's identity for their political profit". Criticizing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Thakur said that Singh visited Assam only for 10 times in his term, but Narendra Modi visited Assam more than 35 times in the last five years; and it demonstrates PM Modi's affection towards the people of Assam.

Thakur also commented that the BJP has given Rs 10,727 crore in 2019-20 to Assam but the Congress had given Rs 1,100 crore in 2009-10 from the Finance department. Various schemes for the development of Xatras and Namghars in Assam, PM Modi's initiative on COVID-19 era were also reflected in Thakur's speech.
