BJP writes letter to Parliamentary Committee against Shiladitya Dev

GUWAHATI: At last, vowing to the widespread criticism pouring in from across the State, the State BJP on Saturday wrote a letter to the party’s Parliamentary Committee against Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev.

Notably, Shiladitya has been accused of delivering inflammatory speeches that allegedly contributed to the tragic Dhola killings for which numerous organizations of the State have been vehemently criticizing him.

Talking to the reporters at party headquarter located at Hengrabari on Saturday, State BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami stressed that Dev’s remarks are not party statements. “A public representative should bear public responsibility. If he is found guilty, action would be initiated against him,” Goswami said.

Significantly, Goswami said that Congress has been responsible for the present turmoil of the State. Stating that the Congress is polarized within itself, Goswami said, “Congress has a different stand in Barak Valley while the same has another stand in the Brahmaputra Valley on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. They deliver something in Guwahati and the polar opposite at Delhi.” Goswami further alleged that the Congress has been provoking the people of the State to create communal tense. “They have been engaging in divisive politics since years,” he said.

Contrary, Goswami added, “BJP has been building communal integrity taking everyone on board. The State government has been concentrating on development.”
