GUWAHATI: Former Assam Minister, Bongaigaon MLA, and senior AGP leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury's Innova vehicle was stolen from Assam Secretariat in Guwahati.

Three persons have been arrested in this connection.

The arrested have been identified as Dharej Ali, Ariful Ali, and Safikul Ahmed.

Talking to the media, one of the arrested Dharej Ali claimed that he has been brought in place of his brother.

"The vehicle was taken away by somebody else. They were looking for my brother Naba Ali who took the Innova and when he was not found, I was brought in his place," said Dharej Ali.

Interestingly, the vehicle met with an accident at Numaligarh in the Golaghat district.

In an overnight operation, a team of officers from Dispur Police Station tracked the vehicle to Numaligarh. The team was led by Dispur Police Station officer Mukut Kakoty.

Later, based on the police investigation, it came to light that the driver of MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury identified as Naba Ali was found to be the mastermind and main accused in the car theft case.

Police sources informed that the driver has been absconding.

The police are still investigating the case and the trio has been brought to Guwahati and after a medical test, they will be taken for interrogation.
