Bongaigaon thermal power project declared protected area

GUWAHATI: In exercise of powers conferred by Section 8F under “The Assam Maintenance of Public Order Act, 1947” (Assam Act V 1947) and Section 13B under “The Assam Maintenance of Public Order (Autonomous Districts) Act 1953” (Assam Act XVI of 1953), the Governor of Assam, after taking into consideration the sensitiveness of the NTPC project and the vital installation with sophisticated equipments therein has declared the NTPC-Bongaigaon, Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project at Salakati, Kokrajhar (BTAD), Assam as “Protected” area within the meaning and for the purpose of the aforementioned Acts, in order to ensure safety and security of the plant and project area to regulate the entry of unauthorized persons into that area and for execution of the work of the project in the vital power sector. As per the government order, all individuals are prohibited from entering the plant except Magistrates and Police Officers of Assam government and Central government on duty and all such persons as may be permitted to enter by the District Magistrate or NTPC- Bongaigaon, Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project authority. If any person is found in these “Protected” areas in contravention of the order, he/she shall be punished with imprisonment or fine or both as per the provisions of law, a communiqué said.
