Booty not yet traced; two constables absconding

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: The case (24/2020) of three GRP personnel allegedly looting one kg of gold from a Farida-bound Rajdhani Express passenger, Suresh Kumar, in Guwahati Railway Station on January 17 this year is far from being solved. First, the booty – one kg of gold – has not been recovered as yet. Second, two GRP constables – Trilochan Boro of Nagaon and Babul Haque Choudhury of Paneri – involved in the alleged looting have still been absconding. Of course an ASI – Shraban Kumar Jha allegedly involved in the looting – is in police custody.

According to police sources, the FIR lodged by complainant Suresh Kumar says that Trilochan Boro took the gold out from his pocket and handed it over to Babul Haque Choudhury who pocketed the booty. An SIT (Special Investigation Team) led by DSP Utpal Das was formed for the investigation of the case.

According to police sources, there were raids in the houses of Boro and Haque Choudhury and other possible hideouts, but to no avail.

Another source claims that an SI (Sub-Inspector) is also being grilled in this case. The arrested ASI Shraban Kumar Jha, on the other hand, continues to deny that gold was looted from Suresh Kumar.
