BSNL Employees Announce 3-Day Strike Due To Limitations Declared By Government

GUWAHATI: The All Unions and Association of BSNL (AUAB) has called on the employees to organize agitation programmes due to limitations declared upon them by the government. This agitation programme has been called for since the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited employees are deeply agitated due to the non implementation of assurances given by Manoj Sinhaji, the Minister of State for Communications, in the meetings, held with AUAB on February 24, 2018, and again on December 3, 2018, on the issues of 3rd pay revision.

AUAB has decided to hold street corner meetings for 5 days from February 11, 2019, along with press meets at circle and district levels. Meetings with all political parties to mobilize support for the struggle along with a three days strike on February 18, 19 and 20, 2019.

The agitations are directed towards unfulfilled promises such as Allotment of 4G spectrum to BSNL. Where other private operators are providing 4G services, BSNL has not yet launched the same as 4G spectrum has not been allotted by the Government. BSNL Employees are also quite demoralized due to denial of 3rd Pay Revision. As per the Affordability Clause of the 3rd Pay Revision Committee, the employees of BSNL are not entitled for wage revision, since the Company has not earned profit during the 3 preceding years. The de-linking of pension revision from pay revision, among others are some of the causes of the agitation.

The employees are concerned that the government has forgotten its commitment. On the contrary, the Govt. is more concerned about ensuring financial viability of one private sector company instead of its own PSU BSNL.
