STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi expressed his views on the recently signed “Bodo peace accord”. Addressing the media at his residence here on Wednesday Gogoi said that there are chances that the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) agreement will bring turmoil instead of peace in the Bodoland region. He stated that maximum people living in the BTAD have not accepted the new agreement and many have come to the streets to protest against it. “When this agreement was signed, the views of the non-Bodo people of the region were not taken. They are facing difficulties in the region”, he added.

Speaking further, the senior Congress leader said that the turmoil might extend to Karbi Anglong (KA) because the Bodo people living there have been give the status of ST (H). He said the Bodo communities of Karbi Anglong were not aware and there was no discussion with the representatives of KA regarding it. He asserted that now other communities of the region will also demand same provisions for them from the government.
