Burah (Jame) Masjid committee has decided to cancel the assembling of people on its premises to offer prayers on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

GUWAHATI: In view of the current situation that has arised due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Burah (Jame) Masjid committee has decided to cancel the assembling of people on its premises to offer prayers on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

"The situation caused by coronavirus is turning worse throughout the world. The Muslims around world will observe Eid-ul-Fitr on May 25 (on sighting of the moon). However, as per the guidelines issued by both State and Central government, community Namaz will not be observed at the Burah (Jame) Masjid," stated a press release issued by the masjid's committee.

Talking to The Sentinel, general secretary of the committee Nizamul Hoque said, "I don't remember anything like this which has happened before. We must be aware of the situation and follow the preventive measures to fight against the virus."

"I urge all the Muslim people to not gather in public for shopping purpose especially for Eid. Keeping in mind of the current situation each one of us should co-operate with the government so that we can overcome the crisis," he added.
