Bursting of crackers prohibited near Guwahati Refinery, oil pipelines

GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Guwahati, in exercise of powers conferred upon him U/S 144 CrPC, has prohibited the use of fireworks and bursting of crackers within 500-metre radius from Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati, Oil India Pumping Station, Satgaon and oil pipelines within Central Police District, Guwahati.

DCP Diganta Kumar Choudhury stated in an order that use of fireworks and bursting of crackers in the vicinity of Guwahati Refinery, Oil India Pumping Station and the oil pipelines within Central Police District, Guwahati may cause inflammation/ fire as huge quantities of highly volatile and inflammable petroleum products are stored in Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati, Oil India Pumping Station and pumped through the oil pipelines passing through Central Police District, Guwahati. Is such acts occur, there is every likelihood of imminent danger to the safety and security of the mentioned installations and residents, residing in the vicinity of the Guwahati Refinery and Oil India Pumping Station, Satgaon.

The order also prohibited the use of fireworks and bursting of crackers within Silence Zones of Central Police District, Guwahati. This order shall come into force with immediate effect. Any person contravening this order shall be punishable U/S 188 of Indian Penal Code. Any person aggrieved with this order can, however, file written objection.
