GUWAHATI: A press conference was conducted at the GMC Conference Hall, Uzanbazar, Guwahati on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Mayor of GMC, along with the Deputy Mayor, Deputy Speaker, Spokesperson, and Commissioner of GMC, where the Mayor announced that a special camp has been organized at the Planning Branch of Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Uzanbazar, for disposing all pending files for regularization of the compoundable deviations of buildings and issuance of occupancy certificates from March 9 to March 31.

The owners of such buildings are requested to appear at the said branch within the stipulated time or else they will have to apply afresh after March 31. Moreover, a large number of owners having apartments or flats, who have not applied for occupancy certificates, are requested to apply for the same to avoid any legal action.

The Corporation has collected Rs 104 crore revenue from Property Tax as of now. The Amnesty scheme will continue till March 31with 30% discount. The Corporation has found more than 11,000 holdings which have a pending arrear amount of around Rs 100 crore. A total of 1,25,000 consumers are found defaulters as they have not cleared their property taxes. They are asked to clear all their pending dues with the Corporation. The Corporation has linked approximately two lakh GMC Holding Numbers with APDCL Consumer IDs, and those who are yet to link their holding numbers with APDCL Consumer ID are requested to do so at the earliest. If it is not done, their APDCL connections may be disconnected in further course of time.

In terms of Trade Licenses, the Corporation has collected Rs 27 crore in the current Financial Year. There are 71,000 trade licenses registered under GMC whereas there are 54,000 defaulters who have not renewed their licenses. All the defaulters are asked to renew their licenses by March 31. All business establishments running under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation can apply online for renewal of trade license to avoid penalty as per GMC Act, 1971. During the enforcement drive it is found that many shops and shopping malls are running their business without a valid trade license. Many establishments are having residential holding numbers, but those running commercial activities are requested to change their holdings by March 31.
