CBI Catches IOC Assam Oil Division (AOD) General Manager While Accepting Bribe

GUWAHATI: The CBI, Guwahati caught IOC Assam Oil Division (AOD) general manager Dibyajyoti Datta red-handed while accepting bribe on Monday and registered a case against him and four others on Tuesday.

The case number is RC 1(A)/2019-GWH on February 10, 2019 u/s. 120B IPC and Section 7, 7 (A), 8 & 12 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the investigating agency has alleged that there has been a habitual practice of demanding and accepting gratification from different private businessmen owning petrol pumps and kerosene oil dealerships for IOC GM, Guwahati, Dibyajyoti Datta in connivance with private conduits, for showing them favour in allotment of new retail outlets all over the north-eastern States, including Assam.

According to the release, the four others who have been accused in the case are – Lalchand Choudhary alias Lalaram, Auto Centre Agent, IOC Ltd., Jharnapani, Nagaland; Laxmi Narayan Sogani alias Lichu Babu of SJ Road, Athgaon, Assam; Tony alias Ankeet of Hindustan Tyre Corporation, Guwahati; and Bendangnaro Ao of Dimpur.

The CBI release further said that Dibyajyoti Datta demanded Rs 5 lakh from Lalchand Choudhary for selection and allotment of a petroleum retail outlet at a Tuli site. Accordingly, Lalchand Choudhary agreed to pay Rs 2 lakh as bribe initially as part payment which was to be delivered through one of the associates of Lalchand, Bendangnaro Ao at Guwahati on February 10, 2019. A CBI team caught red handed Dibyajyoti Datta while accepting the bribe from Bendangnaro Ao on behalf of Lalchand Choudary on February 11, the release added.
