Celebrating Womanhood In Unique Fashion At Banikanta Kakati Auditorium

GUWAHATI: The forthcoming International Women’s Day will be celebrated on the theme – Methoni…empowering women – at Banikanta Kakati auditorium, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra on March 8 from 5 pm.

Women activist Dr Akashitora and her company Aroha Empire and Prithibi Assam would facilitate the women body builders from the Northeast at the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Akashitora, who is the convener of the programme, said, “Bodybuilding has always been a male bastion. There are a very few women bodybuilders in the country, especially in the northeastern region who received recognition in national and international platforms. Therefore, my endeavor is to recognize the efforts and achievements of women body builders of our region by felicitating them on the day which celebrates womanhood.”

The achievers to be felicitated on the occasion are Paklu Taipodia, first women body builder from the Northeast, Dr Anindita Priyadarshini Das, first women body builder from the Dibrugarh district, Rinkumoni Chetia, first Assamese body builder from Assam and Suzie Basan, first women body builder from Meghalaya.

Apart from the felicitation of the women body builders, a team of women body builders from the Northeast under the leadership of Binita Lahkar, organizer of IFA Classic, will perform body a building demonstration.

Noted fashion designer Madhumita M Sharma and Sonma Mahanta of NGO Samiddhri will organize a ramp walk for specially-abled children who will walk the ramp along with their mothers. A dance programme by the students of Maharshi Vidyamandir School is another highlight of the event.

Noted women right activist Bonomallika Choudhury will enthrall the audience with a Mono Act on women issues, a press release said.
