GUWAHATI, July 20: The indefinite nationwide chakka bandh launched by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), an apex body of various motor transport associations, from Thursday night has partially crippled normal life in Guwahati. The AIMTC has been concerned and crying against the price hike on diesel over the last couple of months. However, their demand to reduce the price has been ignored by the authority for which they are resorting to chakka bandh out of no choice.

In its first day of the chakka bandh, barring a few buses of Assam State Transport Association (ASTC), plying of private city buses, TATA magic and trekkers were not seen across the city. As a result, the public and private employees, who otherwise go to their respective offices on these public vehicles, faced untold miseries on the day. Moreover, the bandh also badly affected the students’ community, besides commoners who opted to remain indoor.
