Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviews COVID-19 preparedness in State

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to hold review meeting with Minister-in-charge of the respective districts on the implementation of lockdown guidelines and maintenance of social distancing norms once every three days. The Chief Minister directed this while taking stock of KOVID-19 preparedness of Kamrup (Metropolitan) district in a meeting held at DC office, Kamrup (Metro) on Tuesday.

Observing that the State government received several complaints on anomalies on distribution of essential commodities supplied by the government to poor families, Chief Minister Sonowal said that all DCs were directed to take prompt action against all unscrupulous elements and ensure exemplary punishment for them.

Further saying that the State government had already decided to provide 5 kg rice per month to per member of poor families who do not have ration cards under NFSA.

According to a release, The Chief Minister also asked the agriculture department to carry out a survey of crops and other agricultural produces in the State and directed to ensure safe storage of the same during the lockdown period. He also directed the department to develop a mechanism for collection and selling of products thus collected from farmers.

Stating that Kamrup (Metro) district has an important role to play in the fight against coronavirus epidemic, the Chief Minister said that district administration would have to ensure safekeeping of all 1230 stranded workers of other States sheltered in the district.

The Chief Minister directed the district administration and Guwahati Municipal Corporation to take adequate steps for generating awareness among people about social distancing and other precautionary manures against COVID-19. Later talking to media persons, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the State government initiated several steps in the second phase of lockdown in the State keeping in mind greater interest of the people.

Later, the Chief Minister also met a delegation of Guwahati fruit market vendor association and urged them to check price rise during the lockdown period. GDD Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjya, MLAs Atul Bora, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Bimal Bora, Kamrup (Metro) DC Biswajit Pegu, Police Commissioner Munna Gupta, GMC Commissioner Debajit Hazarika and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
