GUWAHATI: The Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) have slammed the State Government's move to close down schools with zero pass percentage and to merge zero-performing schools with nearby schools.
SFI state general secretary Nirangkush Nath and DYFI secretary Rituranjan Das said that the schools which would be closed down were started on land donated by the public. "Subsequently they were provincialized and now the government is conspiring to close down these schools. We will never accept this decision," they said.
The student leaders also objected the government's move to appoint tutors in some colleges. These tutors get a fixed remuneration only and not salary with other benefits. The two student organizations have demanded the government to give these tutors the status of teachers along with salary and other benefits. They have also demanded the government to reconsider its decision to close down non-perfoming schools.
