GUWAHATI: Rehearsals are on in full swing for the massive Bihu celebrations that are scheduled to be hosted in the Sarusajai Stadium of Guwahati on April 14. The event which will see the presence of the Prime Minister, has been curated to make its way to a world record.
The rehearsals will be conducted on April 11 and April 12 while the participants will be rested on April 13. The final presentation will be done on April 14 in front of several dignitaries and a large number of viewers. Practices are being carried out twice daily. Performers from each district have been given traditional dresses with different colours for the practice session.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the stadium on Tuesday evening to oversee the preparations ahead of the event. He said, “I am very happy to see the performances today. There are a few minor problems with the synchronization, which I am hopeful will be resolved in the practice session.”
He said that he would be present there for the whole day on Wednesday to keep an eye on the preparations while announcing a special gift for all the participants of the event. Taking into account the heat and the fatigue of the participants, the Chief Minister changed the schedule for rehearsal on Wednesday with the arrangement for breakfast and lunch in the stadium itself.
The participants who belong to different districts of Assam arrived in Guwahati on Monday after they were successfully trained by several master trainers during the past few days. They have been accommodated across many hotels and hostels across the city. According to reports, the contingent from the district of Dibrugarh is the largest. A total of 11,140 people will participate in the record-making event on Friday.
