CM Sarbananda Sonowal Launches Deendayal Divyangjan Pension Achoni

GUWAHATI: “Inspired by the ideals Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sabka Sath Sabka Vikash motto, the state government is striving to uplift the Divyang people of the society and empower them with necessary tools to succeed in life. Divyangs are not alone in their struggles as the state government is with them to make them overcome challenges.” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Thursday while launching the Deendayal Divyangjan Pension Achoni of the Social Welfare Department at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in the city.

The pension scheme will cover a total of 1, 15,111 Divyang people of the state who will receive an amount of Rs 1000 every month under this scheme. The pension scheme will enable the Divyangs to live a life of dignity and make a meaningful contribution to the society, Sarbananda Sonowal said.

Saying that India’s first ITI for Divyangs is set up by the state government at Barbarua in Dibrugarh district which shows the government’s commitment towards development of the especially able sections of the society, Sonowal stated that the government is going to advertise more than 800 posts for recruiting Divyang people in different departments of the government. There is a lot of potential among the Divyangs of the state and the government is taking all steps to provide them with an enabling environment.

Referring to the Bhupen Hazarika’s timeless song manuhe manuhor babe, the chief minister said that the state government believes in harmony among all sections of the people and it will not allow the interest of the indigenous people to get harmed in any way. He also informed that the senior citizen pension scheme will also be started soon by the government to support the elderly people of the state in their time of need. The chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal ceremonially distributed cheques of pension to 13 beneficiaries today.

Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma said that the department is making all-out efforts to address the long pending demands of the especially able sections of the society and the process is on to fill up the backlog in the recruitment of Divyangs in all departments. Additional Chief Secretary of Social Welfare Department Jishnu Barua, Commissioner and Secretary of the department Hemen Das, Director Juri Phukan were also present among others.
