* Teachers are architect for creating human resources: Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Synchronsing with the celebrations of the Teachers' Day programme held at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium at Kalakshetra here on Saturday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in presence of Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, inaugurated a directorate for Bodo and other ethnic language education, an offshoot of the Bodo Accord. Sonowal also felicitated the teachers nominated for meritorious services at the same programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal while paying his rich tributes to the teachers on the occasion of Teachers' Day said that the teachers are the architects of creating good human resources. Therefore, teachers will have to play a crucial role in helping the students in forming their personality traits so that they can go forward and bring about positive changes in the society. He also said that teachers will have to play the role in enriching the students academically and intellectually besides helping them in drafting their future. Stating that the 21st century is the century of Science and Technology, Sonowal said that in this century teachers will have to tread the extra mile in instilling the scientific bent of mind among the students.

Taking a bow before the philosopher, scholar and former President on his birth anniversary, Chief Minister said that following the footsteps of Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the present generation will have to work for creating and encouraging a value-based society.

Stating that the society always looks forward to the teachers, Sonowal said that teachers will have to play the role in instilling confidence among the students so that they can lead a beautiful and meaningful life and become a change agent. He also said that in order to make the society even more progressive, there is a need for technical education. The digital classes being taken place during the lockdown period is the testimony to increasing application of science and technology.

Sonowal also said that because of COVID-19 pandemic, though the people across the state are worried, Health Department has been working unrelentingly to ensure safety to the people. He also said that the teachers have also played a great role in creating awareness about the safety measures among the people.

Sonowal also said that under Gunotsav, the State government has been working for the qualitative development of education in the State. Sonowal said that to make each student an able citizen, the teachers have been working assiduously.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarmasaid that since time immemorial, teachers have been playing a distinctive role in the state. Therefore, in modern society there has been intrinsic relations between the teachers and taught. Paying tributes to Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Sarma said that the scholar with his unique philosophy, enlightened the society. Stating that education brings change in the society, the minister said that in India, Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan gave a new dimension to life with the help of which the country is treading the path of excellence.

He also said that the National Education Policy, 2020 would steer the nation from the pangs of British system to India's own system of culture and tradition. He also said that the 40-member task force formed by the State government for the implementation of NEP has had its first meeting on 5th September, a press release said.
