CMO's Clarification on Akhil Gogoi's Misinformation

GUWAHATI: Taking strong note of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti Adviser Akhil Gogoi's allegations that syndicates on coal, betel nuts, fish, cow in the state are being operated in connivance with the Chief Minister Office, the CMO, Assam in a statement today slammed the reported allegations and termed them as baseless, imaginative and vindictive. The Chief Minister Office said that the allegations have been made to malign Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's image who has taken unprecedented and unconditional steps against corruption.

"Immediately after assuming office, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal adopted an uncompromising, zero-tolerant policy against corruption and the people of the state have already noticed the outcome of his bold steps. In view of reported corruption in APSC, Agriculture, Excise, Information and Public Relations, Labour Departments, the Home Department under strict directions of the Chief Minister has taken exemplary steps against the corrupt officials", the statement said.

Moreover, with a view to deal with syndicates, all illegal check-gates have been withdrawn as per direction of the Chief Minister. CM Sonowal has also empowered the State Police to act against syndicates being operated since the regime of the Congress Government in the state and ordered formation of Task Force, to deal with such cases. Adopting transparent reformatory steps, the State Government has made appointments in Home, Education, Health and other Departments based on merit only which has resulted in ushering a ray of hope among the younger generation and bringing back people's faith in the administrative machinery.

In spite of the sequel of steps taken to root out corruption by the Chief Minister, allegations made by KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi, show his lack of vision and integrity. People of Assam understand well the inconsistency between his comments and actions. They have lost faith in Akhil Gogoi and rejected him completely. The recent attempt to malign the image of the Chief minister by making false and concocted statements is infact a politically motivated conspiracy hatched by some vested interest groups who are being deprived of the kickbacks of syndicate raj. The people of Assam will never be strayed by such misinformation campaign of any opportunistic and unprincipled leader like Akhil Gogoi, said a press release.
