GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has alleged that there is a conspiracy going on to legalize coal syndicate in Assam by misusing the Assam Mineral and Mining Development Corporation (AMDC).

Addressing a press conference, APCC spokesperson said that on February 8, 2022 Coal India Limited has done e-auction of five coal mines (along with Koilajan in Assam) and again on February 10, e-auction of another three coal mines was done, including Gorampani Coal field in Assam. In Koilajan coal mine, 58000 ton coal and in Gorampani coal mine, 48,00,000 ton coal are available. "AMDC has been assigned to extract coal from Koilajan and Gorampani coal mines. However, under revenue sharing model with the State Government, 81.5 per cent revenue in Koilajan and 288.25 per cent revenue in Gorampani is to be shared with the State Government. Usually, considering demand and quality of coal, this ratio is between 8 per cent-18 per cent," said the APCC spokesperson. "Taking account of royalty to State Government, National Mineral Exploration Trust, land revenue etc. there will be expenditure of Rs 8,087 per ton coal against earning of Rs 5,614 in Koilajan coal mine, which means loss of Rs 2,473 per ton. Similarly, in Gorampani coal mine, there will be expenditure of Rs 19,698 and earning of Rs 5,614, thus net loss of Rs 14,083 per ton coal. It clearly proves that by this arrangement, the State Government is conspiring to push AMDC into serious financial loss to get coal contractors involved," said the APCC spokesperson. The APCC demanded a clear statement from AMDC and the Assam Government on this issue.
