GUWAHATI: CPI Assam Council flayed the statement of State Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary that 'The Assam Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Facilitation of Establishment and Operation) Ordinance, 2020 would not affect the land rights of indigenous people'.

In a statement issued to the media on July 4, the party said it is an attempt to befool the Assamese people. "There is no provision in the Assam MSME law that only the local entrepreneurs can start MSMEs. Many tall talks are uttered, but where is the bar that should have to imposed. The Communist Party is also worried that the new Ordinance will infringe upon the land rights of the people of Assam. Any MSME may come and establish units and just inform the authority. There is no provision in the new Law that the agriculture land will not be allowed to set up MSMEs,'' the party said.

Meanwhile, the party urged the people of the State to protest the Ordinance on July 8 holding demonstrations in front of DC and SDO(C) offices and to burn the copy of the Ordinance.
