GUWAHATI: The Communist Party of India (CPI), Assam State Council staged a protest on Monday demanding the government to take measures for the needy people who have been affected by the lockdown.

With the prime objective to draw attention of both the Central and State government regarding the situation of labourers, the CPI, Assam State Council staged protest in front of the Assam State Council office and All CPI District Council office of the State.

The Council alleged that the statement made by Prime minister Narendra Modi has gone in vain as many has already lost their employment and has not received any kind of wage as promised by his government. The Communist Party of India, Assam state Council in a press release said, "We have staged a protest demanding the government to take responsibility to bring the stranded student and labors in different parts of India. We demand the government to provide Rs. 7,000 to each student and labors who are still stuck in other states."

Besides demanding financial security and free arrangement for bringing the stranded people to their own home, the CPI, Assam State Council also demanded proper arrangement of food, drinking water, masks, sanitizers and other necessary items for the stranded labourer and students. The protestors also raised the demand of job security for all those engaged in different government and non-government sectors.

The CPI, Assam State Party further raised several other demands. The Party appealed the State government to order all the respective authorities that they will not be able to fire any employee irrespective of government and non- government organization. The other demands include – Rs. 7,000 financial add to the workers of unorganized sectors including the domestic worker, Rickshaw driver and other daily wage earners. To provide essential items like rice, oil, salt etc. to all the poor people. To make arrangement for employment of all the migrant workers who have returned to their homes and to provide Rs. 7,000 financial aid to them until they find any employment.
