Conclude tendering process of garbage dumping & treatment plant at the earliest: HC to GMC

GARBAGE DUMPING & TREATMENT PLANT AT BORAGAON

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati High Court has directed the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) to conclude the tendering process of the garbage dumping and treatment plant at the proposed site in Boragaon here at the earliest.

Appreciating the steps taken by the GMC, the bench of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice Malasri Nandi said, "We would like to know from both the GMC as well as State authorities as to when this tendering process would be concluded so that the work can be commenced at the earliest without any delay".

The bench said this while hearing the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) -- 40/2021 filed by Pradip Baruah.

The Counsel of GMC submitted before the High Court that as far as dumping of garbage at the Chandrapur area is concerned, it has been temporarily stopped. The Counsel added that the GMC authorities have also identified a new suitable place at Boragaon for setting up the plant for garbage dumping and treatment.

The Counsel also informed the Court that the GMC had floated a tender, adding that the process to examine the technical and financial bids had already been concluded. The Cousel added that the GMC authorities are awaiting administrative clearance from the State Government for awarding the tender to the successful bidder.

The Counsel further submitted that within a week he would file an affidavit before the Court on the approximate time that will be required by the authorities concerned to finalise the process.

The next hearing has been slated on December 13, 2021. On that date, the Additional Senior Government Advocate will apprise the Court of the time that would be taken by the State authorities to sanction the necessary administrative approval for the process.
