GUWAHATI: The two-day-long national conference of Charted Accountants (CAs) that got underway in Guwahati on Friday deliberated various aspects, including opportunities and challenges in the profession of CAs.
The conference was formally inaugurated by Ajay Kumar Singh, general manager of State Bank of India, NE Circle at Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts.
Speaking at the conference Naveen ND Gupta, the president of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), deliberated on the CA profession about opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in the ever-changing and dynamic business environment.
Chairman of the Guwahati Branch of EIRC of ICAI Rohit Agarwal delivered a short and crisp speech to all the dignitaries and members present in the conference. He said the two-day conference is focused on exploring the future of the CA profession. Quoting Sir Abraham Lincoln for adopting the motto of the conference, Agarwal asked the young CAs not to escape from the responsibility.
The conference has invited the best speakers of the country on varied subjects. The technical sessions will include sessions on direct tax covering issues on Benami transactions, search and survey, recent changes in corporate laws, dynamics of bank audit in changing economic scenario, suaveness of information technology, impact of accounting standard changes on SMEs, indirect tax affairs of current interest covering GST Annual Return and Audit etc.
A gala cultural function was organized on Friday evening where the delegates and their family members swayed to euphoric performances by artistes of national repute. CA Raginee Goyal, Chairperson of the Media & Publicity Committee for the conference, informed the media that the Guwahati branch of EIRC of ICAI organizes a conference of this scale every year and it is an excellent avenue for the members to get a perspective on diverse and complex statutes, which are frequently subjected to tumultuous changes and amendments so often in recent times. She said that the annual conference is a much awaited event for the fraternity as it is an opportunity for the Chartered Accountants to sharpen their axe by way of continuous professional education and also helps in networking with fellow members from across the country.
