Congress' days are numbered: BJP

GUWAHATI, Sept 28: BJP’s Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh has said that the days of the Congress are numbered in the State, and realizing this fact the ruling party in the State is out to create commul flare-ups.

Speaking at a function at Hengrabari in the city today when former AASU president Sankar Prasad Roy and general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi have joined the BJP, Singh said: “Why do student and youth leaders fighting for the cause of regiolism join the BJP, and not the Congress? This is enough a sigl for the Congress that its days are numbered in Assam. The count down for the ruling party has already started. Realizing this fact the ruling party in the State is out to create commul tension in the State. We have information from our sources that the meeting held at Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati last night decided to create flare-ups in the State. However, we won’t let that happen. The joining of the two students leader has proved yet again that we have many takers in the State.”

BJP’s State president Siddhartha Bhattacharyya said: “Both Sankar Prasad Roy and Tapan Kumar Gogoi have acquired vast experience as leaders of the AASU for a long time. They were successful as AASU leaders, and now they have set foot on the political field equipped with much experience that will certainly help the BJP inching towards the destition. With the joining of the two AASU leaders, the State BJP is stronger today than what it was yesterday. They have taken the right decision at the right hour.”

Former minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “As leaders of the AASU, both Roy and Gogoi were vocal for solutions to problems afflicting the people of the State. They have many takers at all spheres in society, and as such their joining the BJP is a step forward towards a non-Congress government at Dispur. Nowadays the difference between tiolism and regiolism is little. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has announced the politics of yarn and blankets. He has set aside funds for that also. We’ve nothing to say in this regard. We, however, can’t digest it without a pinch of salt that he is providing yarn and blankets to the State’s 23 lakh unemployed against a life in the lap of luxury to his son. Let Gogoi treat the 23 lakh unemployed youths of the State like his own sons. 2016 will surely witness the politics of change in Assam. Only Prime Minister rendra Modi can provide security to the indigenous people of Assam, and it has been realized by all.”

Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty and other office-bearers of the party were also present at the function today.
