Congress’ Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog Promises Aid For Poor

GUWAHATI: Congress’ Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog has made it public that if the Congress comes to power at the Centre this year, it will pump in financial assistance to all BPL families in their bank accounts so that nobody has to die of starvation in the country.

In fact, this announcement was made at a recent public rally in Chhattisgarh by AICC (All India Congress Committee) president Rahul Gandhi.

Talking to the media at Rajiv Bhawan here on Tuesday, Ajanta Neog said: “Our party has taken such a scheme under its social justice for the poor and poverty alleviation programmes. Details of the scheme will be spelt out in the party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto.”

The MLA said: “The Congress has always been with the poor. It believes in the doctrine one nation, one class. However, there’re two classes – one comprising the poor and the other comprising the corporate sector – in the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the country. And the government is siding with the Corporate class.” On Congress’ commitment, Neog said: “As promised, the three chief ministers of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh waived farmers’ loans within 24 hours of taking the oath.”

On the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, the MLA said: “This is a communal Bill. The Congress sticks to its stand: all foreigners who entered Assam after March 24 midnight, 1971 will have to go, regardless of their faiths. If this Bill is passed, there’ll be two cut-off dates in the State – March 24 midnight, 1971 for Muslims foreigners and March 31, 2014 for Hindu foreigners.”
