Congress targets 33 lakh membership in Assam

GUWAHATI: Important decisions were taken during a meeting of the Assam Congress Legislature Party (ACLP) held on Monday in Dispur, which was attended by ACLP leader Debabrata Saikia, deputy ACLP leader Rakibul Hussain, chief whip Wazed Ali Choudhury and all MLAs.

The ACLP meeting was also attended by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Bora and working presidents Rana Goswami, Kamalakhsya Dey Purksyastha and Jakir Hussain Sikdar.

Members of Parliament of both the houses – Ripun Bora, Pradyut Bordoloi, Ranee Narah, Gaurav Gogoi and Abdul Khaleque were invited as special guests.

In the meeting, it was decided that the membership drive will be speeded up and the target that has been finalized for the first phase is 33 lakh and 8.50 lakh membership forms have already been disbursed. All MLAs will take full responsibility of one district, excluding his home district, to supervise the membership drive. All three Lok Sabha MPs will supervize their respective LS constituencies. Rajya Sabha MPs Ripun Bora will supervise Tezpur LS and Ranee Narah will supervise Lakhimpur LS.

After the distribution of 33 lakh membership forms to BCCs and DCCs, a date will be finalized for mega membership drive and that day all leaders will be present in their respective booth/polling area.

Regarding the forthcoming municipality elections in Guwahati, it was decided to constitute 84 election committees for all 84 municipality areas under the leadership of senior local leaders. For the forthcoming autonomous council elections, a decision was taken to constitute a two-tier system committee to strengthen and widen the party's base in council areas.

A brainstorming session will be held in January, 2022 while a training camp in Guwahati will be held in December after the assembly session, as directed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
