Construction Workers Deprived of Government Allowances, Stages Dharna

GUWAHATI: Expressing contempt at the non-implementation of aid for the construction workers, the Sodou Axom Nirman Shamik Unnayan staged a dharna here in the city on Thursday.

Submitting a memorandum to the Member Secretary of Assam Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, the Unnayan placed certain demands that they desired fulfilled.

Even after applying for education allowance, pension, death aids, etc by the construction workers four years ago, the same has not been released till date. According to orders released by the Supreme Court, the beneficiaries should be handed over their rightful dues, the Unnayan petitioned.

The Unnayan further insisted that houses should be constructed for the underprivileged workers along with proper investigation into the anomalies in the training of the construction workers, among other demands.
