Contractual Teachers Seek Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s Intervention

GUWAHATI: The Sadou Axom Prathamik TET-uttirno Shikshak Samaj working president Troilokya Deka has rued the fact that despite an assurance by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the teachers appointed on contractual basis have not been regularized even today. This, according to Deka, was despite the submission of memoranda to the Education Minister and the Education Commissioner for regularization of their services many times.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Sunday two general secretaries of the Somaj – Mirajul Rashid and Diparnav Ghosh – said that the present Education Minister is not laying any stress on solving the problems of education and teachers. They said that apart from not regularizing their posts, the department has been depriving the teachers of their other facilities. This, they said, is despite the fact that such teachers have already acquired professional qualifications and experience. Against the grade pay of Rs 7.400 per month being received by regular primary teachers, the contractual teachers get Rs 6,200 per month. This, they alleged, has violated the equal pay for equal work norm. “We’re going to send memoranda to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through deputy commissioners on March 7 seeking his intervention into the issue,” one of the general secretaries said.

They have warned that if their memoranda fall in the deaf ear of the Chief Minister, they will have no alternative but to opt for a vigorous agitation.
