GUWAHATI: The All Assam Primary TET Qualified Teachers' Association has expressed dissatisfaction over Dispur's approval of payment of enhanced 5% Dearness Allowance (DA) with effect from January, 2022 for Contractual Teachers and other staff/officers under Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Assam, in terms of the Office Memorandum issued by the Finance Department. The Government's decision was shared on Saturday via a tweet by Education Minister Dr Ronoj Pegu on Saturday.

The Association's president Traloikyo Deka said that contractual teachers and other employees under SSA have been receiving equal salary with regular teachers and other employees, but there is disparity when it comes to payment of DA.

"The regular teachers are enjoying 31% DA, but we are getting only 12% DA. Although the government increased our DA thrice since 2019 — 5%, 11%, and 3% (a total of 19%) – yet we have not received the increment DA so far." He said that the latest decision means that they would now receive only 17% DA instead of 31%.

Deka further insisted that the latest 5% hike in DA should be made applicable from 2019 instead of January, 2022. Otherwise, he said, the decision will not be acceptable to them.

He also referred to the Cabinet decision of July 1, 2020 which stated that contractual teachers would receive the status of the regularized teachers and alleged that the Government has not yet implemented that decision."
