GUWAHATI: The State BJP has said that the Budget proposal for the creation of a development corporation for the indigenous Muslims of Assam will go a long way in all-round development of the local Muslims.
Presenting the budget for the year 2019-20, State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “Establishment of a development corporation for the indigenous Muslims of the State which will take up various programmes aimed at the holistic development of this section of the society, including self-employment activities, provisioning banking linkage etc. As the indigenous Muslims of Assam – Goria, Moria, Syed, Julha and others – have always played an extremely important role in the social and economic progress of the State, a socio-economic census of the indigenous Muslims of the State will help to assess their socio-economic condition. We are going to allocate Rs 100 crore to the corporation this year.”
Reacting to the Budgetary proposal, State BJP spokesperson and Minority Development Board, Assam chairman Muminul Aowal said: “The indigenous Muslims of Assam have got an exclusive status on the floor of the Assam Assembly after some 72 years of independence of India. We thank the State Government for this. Such a gesture has proved yet again that this government in the State is for the indigenous Muslims. We hope this proposal of the government will bring a ray of hopes among the indigenous Muslims of the State who have been victims of political, social and economic deprivation over the decades. The Minority Development Board, Assam has already decided to conduct a survey of the indigenous Muslims in the State. Public opinions on this have already been sought through an advertisement. We’re going to hold talks and discussions with various parties and organizations for the survey.”
