Cotton University celebrates "National Science Day, 2019"

Guwahati: Cotton University in association with Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, celebrated 33rd National Science Day, 2019 on February 28, 2019 at the Sudmersen Hall and the Department of Physics. The theme of National Science Day, 2019 is ‘Science for the people and the people for Science’.

The program began with an inaugural session followed by a popular Science talk by Assamese science writer and the former scientist of CSIR-NEIST(formerly known as RRL) Dr. Dinesh Chandra Goswami.

Speaking on the occasion, Goswami said, “Now it is necessary to celebrate science day, but I hope a day will arrive when people question the necessity of celebrating science day".

Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, Director of ASTEC, Prof. Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Dr. Paban Kumar Saharia, President of the organizing committee and the Head of the Department of Physics, Cotton University, the current and the former facilities of Cotton University attended the program.

Dr. Arup Kumar Misra enlightened the students present in the program with his brilliant speech, creating the sense of effective Scientific Temperament.

Students of Cotton University along with the students from different institutions of Assam participated in Article writing, poster and Science Quiz competitions. Science exhibition were conducted in different Science departments of the University.

Dr. Debajyoti Barooah and Dr. Sudipta Nandy from the Department of Physics were the conveners of the event.

The message that National Science Day spreads every year is that science and technology should be applied in daily life.. The day brings scientists and science lovers together as various programmes are organised to bring the scientific community closer. Educational institutes organize science fairs and researchers get a chance to showcase their latest discoveries.
