 GUWAHATI: The 6th Annual Lecture Programme was organized by the Department of Geography, Cotton University to celebrate its 64th Foundation Day on Saturday. The lecture was organized in collaboration with the Cotton Geography Alumni Association. Professor and Director of HRDC at Calcutta University, Dr. Lakshminarayan Satpati, was invited to speak on the topic ‘Restoration of the Ecological Heritage of India: The Role of Geographers’. In his lecture, Prof. Satpati deliberated on the issue of sustainability and the current levels of consumption among the growing population.

The programme was inaugurated by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof. Ganesh Chandra Wary. Like previous years, the best graduates and post-graduates of the department for the year 2022 were felicitated at the meeting. Several alumni and retired professors of the department graced the event. In memory of the recent passing away of two retired professors of erstwhile Cotton College, namely Dr. Bhaben Kalita and Prof. Deben Dutta, a minute of silence was observed. The meeting ended with a speech by the President of the Cotton Geography Alumni Association, Prof. Suren Talukdar, stated a press release.
