GUWAHATI: The Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies Alumni Association (MCJAA), Cotton University celebrated its 6th foundation day on Wednesday.

To commemorate the occasion, a day-long programme was organized at the Sudmersen Hall of the university, which included a workshop and interaction programme with the students, stated a press release.

Taranga Gogoi, chairman of the State Youth Commission, Assam and Bishwajit Das, editor of Asomiya Khabar and Kaushik Deka, executive editor, India Today were present as panelists of the interactive session organized on the occasion.

Interacting with the students, Gogoi enlightened the gathering about the initiative of the commission including steps for the aspirants preparing for all-India level examinations like UPSC.

"We have also taken an initiative to assist the youth of Assam or any other person working in other States of the country," he said.

Kaushik Deka, during his speech, talked about advertisement and its relations with a media outlet.

Senior journalist Bishwajit Das during his speech stressed the importance of 'self-confidence' while working in the field of journalism. He also briefed the students about the importance of news value.

The day-long celebration started with a workshop on print and electronic media in two different sessions. The first session of the workshop was conducted by Manish Goswami, assistant editor, The Assam Tribune on the topic 'writing for print media', while Pankaj Saikia, news editor, Pratidin Time took the session on newsroom system and writing for electronic media.

An exchange of views among the old and new students of the department was also held at the hall.

Later in the evening, a cultural programme comprising performances by the current and former students was also organized.
