GUWAHATI: Despite the rising number of corona cases in the city, residents are not yet concerned about following the COVID-19 protocol whole heartedly. On the second day of Unlock 1.0, shops in various areas of the city were seen flouting the instructions issued by the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration.

According to the district administration shops on the left side of the road were allowed to be open on Tuesday. If Paltan Bazar is taken as a nodal point, shops at Paltan Bazar to Khanapara, Jalukbari to Noonmati, Jalukbari to VIP Road, Six Mile to Narengi and Six Mile to Panjabari were allowed to be open, stated the district administration. However, several shops that lay on the right side of the road within the aforementioned areas flouted the instructions. Despite the violations, no action was taken from the district administration.

On the other hand, buyers at the grocery shops made a mockery of the social distancing norms issued by the government.

The gathering of people in market places in the city is enough an indication that COVID protocol has been given a thump down in the metropolitan city.

Meanwhile, major roads of the city were filled honking cars. Huge rush was witnessed from GS Road to Gauhati Club area. It is high time now that the people should realize the importance of following the health advisory issued by the government. The fourth-month long lockdown burnt the pockets of the daily wage earners. Thus, the people should understand that the State will not be able to withstand another lockdown. Along with the surging COVID-19 cases, if the city continues to haywire with violations then the declaration of another lockdown will be inevitable.
