GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the sudden withdrawal of containment zone of the Governor House, where about 73 persons, including officers and staff had tested COVID-19 positive, is a gross violation of COVID protocol. In a statement issued to the media, Gogoi said that besides that Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, aged about 77 years, being the Constitutional head of the state, instead of being example to the fellow citizens, himself had visited different flood-affected areas of Assam in violation of protocol, and thereby doing 'great disservice' to the State.

"If a responsible person like Governor, Constitutional head does not follow the rules and regulations how we could expect a common man to behave like law-abiding citizen. To contain COVID-19, all protocols like hand washing, wearing mask, social distancing etc., confinement of people in containment and affected areas must be strictly observed. While many BJP leaders are critical of Sri PradyutBordoloi, MP's presence at the Janaja of Late Mufti Khairul Islam at Dhing but they are conspicuously silent about the Governor's visit by breaking all norms," the statement said.

Due to lack of State Government's strict implementation of COVID-19 protocol, cases have been rising alarmingly in the State, the statement added.
