GUWAHATI: The nationwide protests against the farm laws and aftereffects of the Republic Day tractor rally in New Delhi are now reverberating in the State with a number of organizations and political parties joining it.

The CPI, CPI(M) and the CPI(ML) staged a joint sit-in in Guwahati against the farm laws. Speaking at the programme, the State CPI secretary Munin Mahanta said that the government should desist from enforcing the controversial farm laws. "The two famers of the State – Dinesh Das and Jayanta Gogoi – who were arrested after their return from the tractor rally in New Delhi on the Republic Day should be released immediately," he said, besides raising the demand for cancellation of the farm laws and stopping police atrocities on farmers.

The State CPI leader has also raised the demand for providing lands to the residents of Mikir Bamuni Grant Land in the State.

The sit-in was staged in support of the nationwide chakka jam called by the All India Farmers Sangarsh Committee. In Assam the protest was staged at Rotary Point near Gauhati Club.
