Crime in City: Guwahati rapidly turning into drug hub

GUWAHATI: The fad of drug abuse is rapidly spiraling out of control in the city. Among many other locations in the city, the Jalukbari police station area, which includes Pandu, Adabari, Goasala and Jalukbari are fast emerging as drug dens. There has been various reports of drug buyers and sellers in the market, who slyly yet openly trade with each other. A commotion occurred in Garigaon on Monday when a gang of youths, suspected of selling drugs were chased down by the locals of the area. Among the five miscreants, the miscreants managed to hunt down two identified as Michael alias Ajahar Ali of Garigaon and Mokib Ali of Borbari, Azara. They were handed over to Jalukbari police and a case (1637/19 U/S 22 (b)/27 NDPS Act) has been registered against them. 4.6 gram of suspected brown sugar and 11 syringes have been recovered from their possession. In a similar situation, a raid was conducted at Nijorapar, Noonmati on Monday and a drug peddler identified as Joseph Ali was caught. Nine containers filled with suspected drugs were recovered from his possession.
