Custodial Death Case: Cops on Duty in Panikhaiti Police Station Discharged

GUWAHATI, Aug 9: The Police Commissionerate, Guwahati through an order suspended Panikhaiti police out post Incharge SI Borsing Terong, ASI Tarak Deka, UBC Biswajit Sarma and UBC Nandakishore Baitha with immediate effect. At the same time, six Home Guards, Anisuddin Ahmed, Sanjib Talukdar, Ashok Kalita, Jatin Boro, Dipak Kalita and Shankar Ramchiary were discharged from service. Notably, one Chandan Bharali (23) died under the custody of the Panikhaiti police Out Post on Tuesday night. Though he was handcuffed, he was kept sitting on a bench inside the Out Post as there was no lockup there. Chandan reportedly fled taking advantage of the inclement weather and power failure during the night. On Wednesday morning his body was found hanging behind the Out Post for which his family members have demanded an inquiry.
