Cybercriminal impersonating Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh has also fallen prey to online fraudsters who use his photo to keep sending messages by impersonating him on WhatsApp.

Cybercriminals used a photo of the Guwahati Police Chief in uniform as a display picture (DP) on the popular messaging mobile application WhatsApp.

Taking to Twitter, the Guwahati Police Chief cautioned the citizens not to fall for the fraud.

"A scammer has copied my photo from the internet and is sending WhatsApp messages. I request anyone who gets such a message to press the Report & Block buttons available on WhatsApp. @WhatsApp it's time you woke up to this scam, which is rampant," Commissioner of Police Singh tweeted.
