Dacoit’ in uniform in police custody who looted ITC godown at Gorchuk, Guwahati

GUWAHATI: An ASI has landed himself in hot water by lending a helping hand to dacoits who looted ITC godown at Gorchuk in Guwahati recently.

On January 2, the godown of ITC was looted by dacoits who decamped with cigarettes worth Rs 1.5 crore. Acting on the case (5/19) filed by the company in that connection, Gorchuk police did arrest 14 people, including eight dacoits. Strangely enough, on January 20 the police arrested Amsoi outpost ASI Afjar Uddin Ahmed in connection with the looting case. The charge against the ASI is – he helped the dacoits’ truck carrying the looted cigarettes cross Amsoi outpost, besides helping them to keep the truck hidden at a desolate place. Other members of the gang were unloading the cigarettes from the truck and supplying the cigarettes to different areas in other vehicles. The ASI was produced before the court on January 21 that sent him to police remand. Now he is in Gorchuk police lock-up.
