GUWAHATI: Eminent music director and singer of Assamese mobile theatre, Dasarath Das was conferred the 'Indian Oil Guwahati Refinery Luit Gaurab Award' for the year 2022, stated a press release.

Das was presented with the award during the Rongali Bihu celebration programme organized by Noonmati Bihu Sanmilan at Sector-II playground at Noonmati on Friday. In recognition of his relentless efforts and contribution in enriching the music of Assamese mobile theatre, Das was selected for the award by a jury comprising of some eminent personalities of the State.

In line with its corporate policy to preserve and enrich traditional art and culture, Guwahati Refinery initiated the 'Indian Oil Guwahati Refinery Luit Gaurab Award' in the year 2018 for artistes contributing to folk art and culture of Assam. The award consists of an amount of Rs 1 lakh, a gamosa, xorai, japi and a citation, which is awarded every year during Rongali Bihu celebration at Noonmati Bihutoli.

Dasarath Das, who hails from Angulia village of the Baksa district, is a name to be reckoned with in Assamese mobile theatre. For over four decades, Das has been associated with Assamese mobile theatre, both as a singer and as a music director. For his outstanding contribution in the field, Das was also honoured by All India Radio, Axom Xahitya Xabha , Asom Natya Samiti etc. Besides mobile theatre, Das also worked as music director in Assamese films like Sendur and Railar Alir Dubari Bon.

Das received the award in the presence of a huge audience. SP Singh, Executive Director & Refinery Head of Guwahati Refinery, while handing over the award to Das, shared that Guwahati Refinery has been continuously promoting such efforts which has been enriching the art and culture of the State of Assam.

While receiving the award, Das expressed gratitude to Indian Oil Guwahati Refinery for the honour and said that the award would further inspire not only him but other artistes of the State who have been passionately working towards the promotion and preservation of Assamese art and culture in various forms.

It may be mentioned that last year, the award was presented to Hira Bala Rabha, an eminent Rabha folk singer, for her contribution in the field of promotion of Rabha folk songs.

Meanwhile, according to another press release, 'National Fire Services Day' was observed at Guwahati Refinery on Thursday.

The programme started with flag hoisting, followed by laying of wreaths and floral tribute by SP Singh, Executive Director & Refinery Head, in presence of senior officials. Two minutes' silence was observed on the occasion in memory of the gallant Fire Service personnel who lost their lives in line of duty during the explosion incident at Victoria Docks, Mumbai in the year 1944.

In the programme, Prabhakar Kumar, Chief Manager (Fire &Safety) briefed about the significance of Fire Services Day and briefed about the various awareness programmes planned for the Fire Services Week from April 14 to April 25. The programme also witnessed reading out of messages of Chairman and Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Singh said that the theme for this year's Fire Services Day - 'Learn Fire & Safety, Increase Productivity' - assumes great significance. He urged all to rededicate themselves to learn fire and safety measures and to make every possible effort for elimination of even smaller and minor unsafe conditions. He also emphasized on strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)s and Safe Maintenance Practice (SMP)s in both letter and spirit for ensuring zero accident and incident.

The programme was attended by F&S personnel, CISF/AISF jawans and contractual workers. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Narendra Kumar, Senior Manager (Fire &Safety).
