GUWAHATI: Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati will telecast the serial 'Swaraj - Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha' in the Assamese language from August 20.

Addressing a press conference at Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati on Thursday, Director General of North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, B Narayanan said that the 75-episode serial will be telecast in DD Assam at 9 pm every Saturday and it will be repeated on Sunday from 9 pm to 10 pm and on Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 am to 10.30 am. Narayanan informed that this serial will also be broadcast on All India Radio at 11 am every Saturday.

Talking about the ideas behind the show 'Swaraj', the Director General said that this serial will highlight the contribution of the freedom fighters and unsung heroes of the freedom struggle which will help to pass knowledge in an interesting way. This will also help to revitalize Doordarshan and recapture the audience, he added. He asserted that this serial will enable future generations to know the history of the freedom struggle and march forward with the inspirations from these stories.

Narayanan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the special screening of the TV show 'Swaraj - Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha' on Wednesday in Delhi.

The 'Swaraj' serial was launched on August 5 last at a function at Akashwani Bhavan by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the presence of Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur and Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr L Murugan.

The broadcast of the serial began on August 14 in Hindi on DD National. Every fresh episode of Swaraj will be aired from 9 pm to 10 pm on Sunday on DD National and it will be repeated on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The idea behind the serial is to reproduce an audio-visual history of India's search for 'Swaraj'. The repertoire of photographs, films, oral histories, personal memoirs, autobiographies, biographies, multi-lingual regional literature remain mostly unexplored and largely absent from the public consciousness. The serial, being presented in a docu-drama format, has been researched well by a team of leading historians.

Along with Swaraj, Doordarshan is launching four other serials including 'Jai Bharati', 'Corporate Sarpanch' and 'Yeh Dil Mange More'. These serials have messages of patriotism and women empowerment and are being telecast at prime time on DD National from Monday to Friday, starting from August 15 last. The new show 'Suron Ka Eklavya' is a reality music show and pays tribute to Bappi Lahiri, which is being telecast on Saturday and Sunday at prime time from 8 pm to 9 pm from August 14.
