GUWAHATI: The Greater Guwahati Unit (GGU) of the North East India Petroleum Dealers' Association (NEIPDA) has decided not to receive petrol (motor spirit) blended with 10% ethanol from oil manufacturing companies (OMCs) from Monday.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Saturday, NEIPDA unit's president Rajib Goswami clarified that fuel stations will remain open and the dealers will continue to receive and make retail sales of diesel. However, he said, they will receive and sell petrol from Monday onwards only if it is of the unblended variety. He insisted that the OMCs should supply unblended petrol as per specifications of the dealers' licences.

Goswami reiterated his demand that the OMCs and district administration should inform the public about the pros and cons of the blended petrol.

In response to a question, Goswami said that it is now the OMCs' responsibility to resolve the matter in a just manner.
