Decision On Miah Poetry Held At Guwahati Press Club

GUWAHATI: For the past few days, Miah Poetry has been a matter of controversial discussion among the intellectual society as well as in social media. In order to come into a permanent solution regarding this controversy, a discussion was organized by Assam Mia Parishad in association with Axam Miah Xahitya Xabha.

Attending the meeting here at Guwahati Press Club, renowned intellectual and scholar Apurba Kumar Baruah said, “Language is the key to any group of people belonging to particular community. Language is the actual recognition. There shouldn’t be discrimination in the identity called Assamese irrespective of caste and creed”. By giving instances of the controversy going on viral in social media platform, he said, “Nowadays it is very easy to be a hero in social media platform, it is not necessary to follow and create controversy over the things that some of the people are practicing just to disturb the harmony. A handful of people can never represent the whole group of a community, because within the same group there are people working towards maintaining a sound society and creating social harmony. At times, many well educated youths may get shaken because there are some people, who by crossing their limits hurt people. It’s the duty of senior citizens like us to guide those”.

Representative of various organizations including Hridayananda Gogoi , Deepankar Dev Sharma, Nilamani Hazarika, M Mohar Ali, Khairul Islam and some other put their thought in the meeting presided by MG Hazarika. Axam Mia Xahitya Xabha made it clear that they will always stand for the sake of Assam and Assamese identity, because they feel themselves as responsible for their birth place. MG Hazarika claimed that Miah is not a language, rather it is a dialect. He added, “One has the right to express his thought through the form of poetry and we’re accepting it, but using derogatory remarks and slangs aimed at a particular community is not acceptable."
