Deepak Kumar appointed as New Commissioner of Police in Guwahati

Guwahati: Deepak Kumar has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police in Guwahati on Monday with effect from the date of taking over charge from Pradip Chandra Saloi who retired on superannuation today.

Deepak Kumar earlier served as IGP Law and Order at Assam Police Headquarters at Ulubari in Guwahati.

Speaking to the media, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Deepak Kumar said, "My first priority would be to provide security to the people of Guwahati. I will do an analysis on the crimes in the Guwahati city and will take steps accordingly."

He also mentioned that Assam Police's first priority would be to provide security to the women. "Crime Against women is the first concern of the Assam Police, moreover, keeping in view of the security of the women, there are 30% recruitments for ladies in Assam Police force," added Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar.

Also, talking about cybercrime, Commissioner Deepak Kumar further added, "Assam Police had started a Cyberdome which is a high-tech centre for cybersecurity and innovation to effectively tackle all forms of cyber crimes and offences. This is active in all the districts of Assam including Guwahati. We have appointed good officials in all the districts. They are provided with training at regular intervals."

Furthermore, Commissioner Kumar assured that immediate action will be taken against the culprit for their involvement in any kind of criminal activities.

On being asked about the pending cases in the state, Commissioner Kumar replied, "Yes, there are many pending cases in the region. We have crime branch for this issue, with the support of good police officers and other security personnel of Assam police, we will try to come out with a solution on this issue soon," adding, "For traffic management, we will have a talk about this issue with the Traffic in-charge. Also, we need support from the media, commuters, people from other departments for better road design and infrastructure improvements in the Guwahati city."
