GUWAHATI:The Zoo Suraksha Mancha on Thursday staged a protest in front of the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati to demand that the rare species of animals which were sent to the zoo at Jamnagar in Gujarat from the Assam State Zoo, should be brought back. Some rare species of animals have been transferred from the Assam State Zoo to the zoo in Jamnagar owned by the Ambanis. This has been a subject of much debate. Animal lovers and wildlife conservationists of the State have opposed this move and slammed the State Government for allowing such transfers from animals from the Assam State Zoo.

The activists of the Zoo Suraksha Mancha staged the protest to demand that the government should first make public the number of animals that have been transferred to the Ambani-owned zoo. They also demanded that rare species of animals that have been transferred should be brought back to the Assam State Zoo.
