Demise of Veteran Journalist Prafulla Rajguru Mourned Across State

GUWAHATI: Veteran journalist and academician Prafulla Rajguru, breathed his last on Wednesday. Rajguru was 82 and was undergoing treatment for a hip injury at a city hospital.

The educationist served as the head of English department in Devi Charan Barua Girls’ College (DCB) in Jorhat till 1997 and later joined the daily Amar Asom in 2000. Also the founder president of Jorhat Press Club, Rajguru also authored four books.

Governor Professor Mukhi said, known as an upright journalist and an educationist of repute, Prafulla Rajguru made invaluable contributions to the enrichment of intellectual faculty of the state. He was also an acclaimed litterateur and a prolific speaker who made an indelible mark to the literary development of the state. His death is an irreparable loss to the state. “May the Almighty God bless and comfort the bereaved family members during this time of grief. I also pray to the God for eternal peace of the departed soul”, the Governor added.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Assam Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia also condoled the demise the the academician turned journalist.
