GUWAHATI: After Japanese Encephalitis (JE), the State Health Department has sounded a dengue alert in the state that has detected 87 dengue cases from January 1 to October 6 this year.

Twenty-seven of the 87 dengue were in Kamrup (M), followed by Sonitpur with 13 cases and Dibrugarh with nine.

A senior official of the State Health Department said, "Since the highest number of dengue cases are in the Kamrup (M) district, we have sounded a high alert in the district. We have asked officials in the district to follow all precautionary measures and carry out awareness drives on the vector-borne disease."

The official said, "If any person has symptoms like high fever, headache, loss of taste, vomiting, rashes, joint and muscle pain etc., he should consult the doctor immediately. Through IGM anti-body test kits, we can identify the disease. We got such kits from the Government of India."
